As part of One School One Book, Skunk Haven came to Gurney today to talk about skunks! 🏌️‍♂️📐 Angles in Action: Math Meets Mini-Golf! 📐🏌️‍♀️ What better way to explore angles than by designing your own mini-golf course? 🎯 High school math students put their skills to the test, using concepts like the angle of incidence and angle of reflection to strategically create the perfect path for a hole-in-one! ⛳ Students designed courses with obstacles and bounce walls, marking key reflection points and measuring angles with protractors to optimize their shots. But the learning didn’t stop there! After finalizing their designs, they brought their calculations to life, playing a hole at Sweeny Land Putt-Putt and HassHill’s Magic Mini-Golf to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting. The challenge continued with interactive activities, including angle measurements, a competitive Gimkit game, and pixel art designs based on geometric principles. 🖼️🎮 Through hands-on learning and a bit of friendly competition, students strengthened their understanding of angles—proving that math is not just about numbers but about strategy, creativity, and fun! 🔢✨ #ChagrinSchools #CFtogether #ChagrinTigers #ChagrinFalls

Look what Luke did! Gurney students are kicking off Let Grow with experiences—also known as "projects"—designed to help them step outside their comfort zones. Luke took on the challenge of grocery shopping independently! With a list of five items in hand, he navigated the store, asked for help finding hot dogs, and met his dad at the register to check out. By aligning with state education standards and utilizing its vast collection, the History Center helps students see how our community connects to significant historical events. One School, One Book is here! This year, Gurney students are diving into A Boy Called Bat by Elana K. Arnold—a heartwarming story about Bat, a young boy with autism, his love for animals, his challenges with friendship and change, and his determination to care for a baby skunk. Today, classrooms were buzzing with excitement as teachers introduced the book, a take-home journal and baby skunk, and a classroom rabbit! Students read the first chapter together and explored what it means to understand and appreciate neurodiversity. Over the next month, families will join in reading at home while students celebrate Bat’s journey at school. Gurney Elementary second graders took center stage at the February 19 Board of Education meeting to showcase their classroom’s innovative Grid Method learning system! 🎤🐯 Guided by teachers Lisa Dugach and Sarah Ross, this approach empowers students to master language arts at their own pace through four progressive levels of trick words, spelling, and phonics activities. 🔎🕵️ Just like the secret agents in Agentes secretos y el mural de Picasso, Senora Aranavage’s students were on a mission! Using their Spanish vocabulary, students interpreted written and spoken clues to crack the codes and unlock the 5 Breakout EDU locks. Breakout EDU boxes are an escape room in a box. Teachers program codes, which are hidden in the relevant coursework, and work in teams to solve the challenges. It’s a fun and engaging way to review for an upcoming test. Students had to apply their cultural knowledge of Franco, Gaudí, Barcelona, la Sagrada Familia, Parque Güell, and las Ramblas to solve the challenges. ¡Vamos, agentes secretos! 🔐 #ChagrinSchools #CFtogether #ChagrinTigers #ChagrinFalls
