As our girls and boys cross country teams prepare for the State Meet this weekend, we’re throwing it back to 2000 — another year of strong Tiger runners! 🧡🐾🖤

Every season has its stories from early morning practices to muddy shoes, and that feeling of crossing the line together. What do you remember most about cross country at Chagrin?

Creativity meets technology at CFIS! 🎃✨

Our 6th graders combined design thinking and 3D printing skills to create their own one-of-a-kind pumpkins. Each design started as an idea, transformed into a digital model, and came to life layer by layer on the 3D printer. These student-designed pumpkins show how innovation and imagination grow together at #ChagrinSchools!

Buoyancy, Balance, and a Bit of Chagrin Innovation! 🌊⚙️

Mrs. Anderson challenged her 9th grade physical science students to achieve neutral buoyancy with custom, 3D-printed scuba divers. 💧Mr. Volk printed each diver in the Innovation Center with a unique weight distribution, so no two were alike. Using hot glue and their knowledge of forces, students experimented with items like beads, hardware, popsicle sticks, and balloons to adjust the net force and achieve neutral buoyancy.

To kick off the lesson, Dr. Penczarski, a certified scuba diver with more than 500 dives, shared insights about buoyancy and equilibrium from her underwater experiences. How do you float above a reef without touching it?

Thoughtful teaching and curious minds came together in this lesson, a reminder that learning can be both meaningful and authentic.

Fourth grade never smelled so good! 🧼

As part of their study of The Tiger Rising, students tried their hand at whittling soap, just like Rob, the main character. This favorite fun, hands-on activity is designed to help students connect more deeply with the story’s themes of friendship, belonging, and trust.

Lessons like this are a great example of how Chagrin teachers go beyond the page, helping students build lasting connections with literature and each other.

PJ Day + Flashlights = the Joy of Reading!

Mrs. Arcaro’s 2nd graders recently hit their reading stamina goal of 20 minutes of silent reading 🎉 To celebrate, they cozied up in PJs and grabbed flashlights for some extra-fun reading time. 📖🔦

When you mix books, pajamas, and a little glow, reading becomes pure magic. 💡📚

Our 6th graders are building smart digital habits through ongoing lessons and conversations. With Mrs. Klodor and their ELA teachers, they learned how AI works, its limitations, and created a class charter for responsible use.

With Mrs. Schluep, they discussed how to chat safely online (with permission!) by recognizing private information, circles of trust, and ways to respond when conversations feel uncomfortable.

Families can keep the conversation going at home with questions like:
✔️ How do you know if it's okay to use AI for an assignment?
✔️ Who are your trusted adults if something online makes you feel unsafe?

🧡🖤 Gurney Loves Grandparents! 🧡🖤
Today Gurney welcomed grandparents and special guests to connect with students through poems, conversations, and even a “Turn and Talk” — a strategy we use in ELA classrooms. The room was filled with big smiles and meaningful connections.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this day so special!

Gurney students stepped outside the classroom for a hands-on bus safety lesson with our amazing bus drivers! 🚌✨

Students learned to always watch for the driver’s signals before boarding. Drivers raise their hand to signal WAIT and lower it to show it’s safe to cross or get on the bus.

They also practiced how to safely cross the street near a school bus and reviewed the rules for riding.

A big thank you to our transportation team for teaching these important skills and making it fun! 👏

Observe the Rainbow! 🌈🔬

Mrs. Adick’s 4th graders turned the CFIS Science Lab into a place of discovery this week. With Skittles and warm water, students practiced the scientific method by carefully observing what happened and recording their results.

In 4th grade, students are learning to think and act like scientists - asking good questions, testing ideas, and using evidence to explain what they see.

We love seeing the science lab in action, what a great way to start the year! 🌟
