Students participating in LLS

Over two spirited weeks, students at Chagrin Falls Intermediate School turned spare change, creativity, and a little friendly competition into $3,551 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, surpassing their original $2,000 goal and directing every dollar toward blood cancer research and patient services.

Student Council students planned the fundraiser, and it began with Grade Level Coin Wars. Each morning, jars filled with silver coins and small bills as students rallied their classmates in a friendly competition. The momentum carried into the second week with a raffle to pie a staff member and a spirited lineup of themed days. Students wore red to raise awareness, brought a bit of beach energy into the middle of winter, traded backpacks for creative alternatives, embraced cozy looks, and capped off the week with hats in support of cancer awareness.

“It’s been amazing to see everyone engaged with coin wars and participating in spirit week. It was a whole school effort!” said McKenna Groves, 6th grade teacher and Student Council advisor.

A highlight of the second week was the raffle to pie a staff member, where students purchased tickets for a chance to gently splatter a favorite teacher in the name of a good cause. The celebration culminated Thursday afternoon as Principal Mr. Howell and Mrs. Reeder, Mrs. Adick, Mrs. Beaver, Mrs. Nelson, Ms. Judge, Profe Englehart, Mrs. Schluep, Mrs. Boss, Mrs. Groves, and Mrs. Wolfgang.

“I am incredibly proud of the energy and heart our students brought to this effort,” said Elizabeth Wolfgang, school counselor and Student Council advisor.
