Chagrin Falls High School Senior Owen Adelman Named April Rotary Student of the Month

Chagrin Falls High School senior Owen Adelman was recognized as the Chagrin Valley Rotary Club Student of the Month for April, an honor that highlights leadership, service, academic achievement, and character.

Adelman demonstrated leadership throughout his high school experience, both on and off the field. A three-sport athlete, he served as captain of the golf team, held a leadership role in basketball, and is a varsity captain in lacrosse. He emphasized that leadership goes beyond titles.

“Leadership is not defined by a title, but by consistently supporting others, setting a positive example, and making a meaningful impact within my school and community,” said Adelman.

Beyond athletics, Adelman was actively involved in the Chagrin Falls Student Education Foundation, helping organize events such as Kids Day Out and the Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. He also served as a Link Leader, mentoring incoming freshmen, and was co-president of the pickleball club during his junior year.

His commitment to service extended into the broader community. Adelman worked as a youth camp counselor and contributed to the district’s Home Alone program, helping teach younger students important life skills including safety, first aid, and awareness. He shared that his experiences have deepened his connection to the community.

“I care a lot about Chagrin Falls. I really love this community and hope to come back one day to raise my own family here,” he said.

Academically, Adelman challenged himself with a rigorous schedule that included Advanced Placement, honors, and College Credit Plus coursework. His classes included AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Statistics, AP Spanish, AP U.S. Government, and AP Environmental Science, among others. He said those experiences helped shape both his skills and future goals.

“Some of my proudest academic accomplishments come from pushing myself with a challenging course load while also balancing sports and other commitments,” said Adelman. “Those classes helped me get better at managing my time and staying focused.”

He earned multiple graduation seals, including the Science Seal, the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, the College Ready Seal, the Student Engagement Seal, and the Citizenship Seal. He also was recognized as an All-Academic Athlete in the Chagrin Valley Conference and received the Frank Phillips Tiger Award, which honors leadership, sportsmanship, and academic excellence.

Adelman’s academic experiences also influenced his future plans. After graduation, he will attend The Ohio State University to study actuarial science, with a strong interest in finance.

“A big reason I’m interested in this path is because of the classes I’ve taken in high school,” he said. “They helped me realize that I enjoy working with numbers, analyzing data, and thinking through real-world problems.”

In athletics, Adelman earned numerous honors across lacrosse, basketball, and golf, including All-Region recognition in lacrosse and multiple conference and regional recognitions in golf. He also was known for his sportsmanship and integrity. Outside of school, he enjoys playing piano and even performed at a school event as the Chagrin Falls Tiger mascot.

Giving back remains a central part of Adelman’s goals. As someone living with Type 1 Diabetes, he hopes to raise awareness and support efforts toward finding a cure. “It is a cause that is very personal to me, and I want to use my experiences to help others and make a difference,” he said.

Teachers and administrators described Adelman as a respectful, hardworking student who leads by example and positively impacts those around him. His dedication to academics, athletics, and service reflects the values recognized by the Rotary Student of the Month program.
