The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has announced the six state finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) for grades 6–12. This year, three outstanding educators have been selected in the category of science and three in mathematics to represent Ohio at the national level. Lisa Salyers, science teacher at Chagrin Falls High School, was one of the three science finalists.
State finalists were evaluated and chosen by the PAEMST State Selection Committee using the five Dimensions of Outstanding Teaching. At the national level, the National Science Foundation will convene a national selection committee of experts to review the finalists’ applications. The foundation recommends one awardee in mathematics and one in science for each state and jurisdiction to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
The winner will receive a $10,000 award, recognition from the President of the United States, inclusion in a prestigious cohort of fellow educators, access to professional development opportunities and policy discussions, and more.
