Chagrin Falls High School (CFHS) senior Jason Cheng has been selected as the December Chagrin Valley Rotary Student of the Month. Cheng was chosen based on his leadership and service qualities he has displayed in the community.

Chagrin Falls High School (CFHS) senior Jason Cheng has been selected as the December Chagrin Valley Rotary Student of the Month. Cheng was chosen based on his leadership and service qualities he has displayed in the community. 

Cheng has earned several awards during his time at CFHS.  He received the Certificat D'Excellence (Le Cercle des Conférences Françaises de Cleveland), AP Scholars With Distinction (College Board), AP Capstone Diploma (College Board), Letter of Commendation (National Merit Scholarship Program).

He is an active member of Science Olympiad, cross country and outdoor track. 

Outside of school, Cheng has been invited to be one of three high school student tutors for Journey Learning Studio’s Community Tutoring Program. With more than 96 hours of volunteer time, Cheng has helped out at the Chagrin Falls Library with the Friends of the Library used book sales, children’s events and take-and-make events.  He has been an usher for the Chagrin Falls Intermediate School play, volunteered at the Orange Library, helped clean Holden Arboretum, set up an Easter Egg Hunt at Holden Botanical Gardens, performed SAT tutoring with Schoolhouse World as well as Chinese tutoring with Journey Chinese Academy.  In addition, he has helped South Russell measure out the Gurney Elementary playground for its repainting, and helped the Cleveland Contemporary Chinese Culture Association with Chinese New Year festivities.

In school, Cheng has taken several accelerated classes including AP Chemistry, AP Chinese, AP French, Honors Advanced Data Sciences, AP Statistics, AP Calculus BC, College Composition 1 and 2.  He has completed AP Calculus AB, AP Computer Science A, AP Macroeconomics, AP Physics 2, AP Research, AP US Government, Honors French 4, AP Microeconomics, AP Computer Sci Principles, AP Physics I, AP Seminar, AP US History, Honors Chemistry, Honors French 3, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors English 9, Honors Algebra 2, and AP World History.

He plans on majoring in either mechanical engineering, political science, or both and possibly pursuing a doctorate degree.
