Gurney Elementary School is proud to announce that Courtney Mooney has been honored as the 2025 Chagrin Valley Rotary Teacher of the Year. A dedicated intervention specialist, Mooney’s selection recognizes her exceptional commitment to students, her leadership within the school, and her positive influence on the Gurney community.
Mooney, who plays a key role in the school’s multi-tiered systems of support, creates an inclusive and joyful learning environment that meets the unique needs of each student. Known for her ability to connect with learners and inspire growth, she is deeply respected by both her colleagues and the families she serves. One parent recently shared that their child looks forward to time in Mooney’s classroom more than any other part of the day—a testament to her impact.
Beyond her work in the classroom, Mooney serves as an advisor to the Gurney Service Learning Club, contributes to building morale as part of the Sunshine Committee, and represents her peers on the District Leadership Team. Her colleagues describe her as a professional who “teaches with passion, leads with heart, and serves with purpose.”
Assistant Principal Brittany Ceci shared, “From my first day in the building, Courtney welcomed me with warmth and has been an invaluable resource ever since. Our school is truly a better place because of her.”
The Chagrin Valley Rotary Club’s Teacher of the Year award celebrates outstanding educators who go above and beyond in their dedication to students and the community—qualities Courtney Mooney embodies each and every day.
Gurney Elementary Intervention Specialist Regina Lantsberg also was recognized as the Teacher of the Year Runner-up for her passion, commitment and dedication which has supported educational opportunities for all students at Gurney for the past 19 years. She has made a lasting impact on our students, staff and school community. She brings not only exceptional instructional skills and strategies to the students that have been in her classroom but is also sought-after by her colleagues who value her feedback on their instructional practices to better meet the needs of students in their classrooms.
