Biography - Mary Kay O'Toole
Mary Kay is serving her third term as a Board of Education member, being first elected in November of 2009. This year Mary Kay is chairing the Board Audit Committee and Board Policy Committee and serves on the district's Healthcare Committee. For 2021, Mary Kay is the Board's liaison to the Chagrin Falls Parent Teacher Organization.
Now in her twelfth year as a school board member, Mary Kay has served as Board President four times and two times as Board Vice President.
Mary Kay was a very active participant with the schools before being elected to the Board of Education. She was a member of the school district’s Audit Committee for twelve years. She also served on three of the school district’s last strategic planning committees and was a member of the Superintendent's Inner Council for many years.
She has been an active supporter of the major financial initiatives in the district by serving on the 1999, 2003, 2007, 2012 and 2020 levy committees as well as the 2005 bond committee. In addition, Mary Kay served as the Chagrin Falls PTO president for two years as well as being the PTO treasurer for three additional years.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree from John Carroll University in 1983 and became a Certified Public Accountant with Peat Marwick (now KPMG). Mary Kay is currently the bookkeeper for the Taos Institute, a non-profit educational organization. In addition, she is a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Church where she is a member of the parish's Finance Council.
Mary Kay and her husband Marty have been residents of the school district since 1994. They married in 1985 and have enjoyed parenting their four children to adulthood. All four of their children are graduates of Chagrin Falls High School: Maggie in 2003, Dan in 2005, Erin in 2009, and Shannon in 2014.
