Biography - Kathryn Garvey
Kathryn Garvey is Board Vice President. She was first elected to the school board in November 2015. Kathryn is the Chair of the Board Capital Planning Committee, Chair of the Board Finance & Budget Committee, and Board Rep to the Business Advisory Council. She is also the board representative to the Superintendent's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice Task Force, Strategic Planning Committee, and Business Advisory Committee. Kathryn also serves as liaison to the Chagrin Falls Alumni Association, Chagrin Falls Educational Foundation, and Safe Routes Chagrin Schools.
Kathryn is the founder and board president of Safe Routes Chagrin Schools, a nationally-recognized school-community organization that involves the Chagrin Falls Exempted Village School District, local police departments, local municipalities, businesses, parents and the community in developing and implementing programs that encourage walking and bicycling to school and around town while enhancing the safety of these trips and promoting students' personal growth and independence.
Kathryn served on Superintendent's Inner Council from 2011 to 2015, on the Community Outreach Committees for the 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2020 school levy campaigns, and as a member of the Superintendent's Facilities Committee in 2015. Kathryn volunteered for 12 years with PTO and other support organizations and continues to be very active in the community.
Kathryn received an M.B.A. in Finance from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University and a B.A. from the University of Virginia. She previously worked as Director of Business Development and then as Director of Strategic Planning and Investor Relations at Athersys, Inc. and as a Business Manager and contract negotiator for the state of Ohio for Astra-Merck Pharmaceuticals.
Kathryn moved to the Village of Chagrin Falls in 1992 with her husband Mike and has raised her three children here: Megan, CFHS Class of 2016; Colin, CFHS Class of 2018; and Fiona, Class of 2021.
