End of Year Health Clinic Notes

If your student has medication at school: Medications cannot be sent home with your student; therefore, please plan to pick up your student’s medication(s) from school by the end of the school day on Thursday,  May 26th.  Any medication not picked up by the end of the school day on Thursday, May 26th will be disposed of in accordance with the state law. 

Families of students with asthma, food allergies or bee allergies: In planning for next year, asthma packets, food allergy packets, bee allergy packets and the Request for Medication Administration by School Personnel form are available for the Health Services website Please complete the appropriate packet(s) and/or medication administration form and bring them to school, along with the medication, by the first day of school. We ask that all forms and medications be turned in by the first day of school to help to assure the safety of your child. Class assignment letters to be emailed during the Summer
Class Assignment Letters will be emailed on August 8, 2016 for the upcoming 2016-17 school year. At that time you will receive notification of who will be your child's teacher. We WILL NOT be posting class assignments. 
Order Your Back-To-School Supplies for 2016-17 School Year NOW
Order your school supplies for next year NOW through "1st Day School Supplies." Click on this link before June 30 and choose your grade level (K-3). Your kits will be shipped directly to your home in August. Deadline to place your order is June 30. After this date you will need to purchase the supplies on your own. 
Gurney Lost and Found
The Gurney and Transportation Lost and Found can be found in the lobby of Gurney Elementary. There are LOTS of articles of clothing including snow pants, gloves, sweat shirts, lunch boxes, etc. Any items not picked up by May 31, 2016 will be donated. Please remember to put your child's name on tags in the clothing so it is easily identifiable and we can return the article to the student.

Gurney Water Quality Information Update 2-17-16

Today the school district reviewed with the Ohio EPA the official results of the recent water quality samples. We have received clearance from the EPA to allow consumption of tap water at Gurney School with no restrictions. However the district will be making recommendations at the March Board Meeting for consideration and Gurney will remain on bottled water until that time. As part of Consumer Notice the district has provided the results of the recent samples indicating the results were within satisfactory range. Those results are posted at this link.

Letter to State Officials Regarding Testing/State Report Card
A group of 20 superintendents and other educational leaders, including Chagrin Falls Superintendent, Robert Hunt, wrote a letter to Ohio legislators, Ohio School Board Members and the Ohio Department of Education leadership to express their concern and displeasure regarding the current reality that we face in our urban, rural and suburban public school districts.  The letter addresses current conditions of student assessment and accountability.  Click here to read an article from and the actual letter.

SaferOH Now Used by District as Tipline
Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools has begun using a new safety resource, SaferOH, for its anonymous tip line that is free of charge. The Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Public Safety established this service in response to Governor Kasich's comprehensive school safety plan. The tip line will accept both calls and texts 24 hours a day for registered schools.

Gurney Elementary doors open at 8:25 a.m. Classes begin at 8:35 a.m. and end at 3:20 p.m.
All visitors must report directly to the office upon arrival. Students, along with a parent/guardian, must report to the office once classes begin. 
Online Absence Reporting
To report an absence, please click on the grade level of your child. All absences should be reported by 9:00 AM. Attendance Rules refresher per the Chagrin Schools Student Handbook
