Iready Testing

Each school year we administer benchmark assessments to all of our at-grade level students in the fall, winter, and spring to gauge students’ strengths and weaknesses, monitor student growth, inform our instruction and possibly provide targeted practice activities. The two main assessments we use are iReady Reading and iReady Math which test students on achievement relative to the K-8 curriculum. If your child is scheduled in an on-grade level course (All ELA and Core 7 Math, Core 8 Math or Advanced Apps), he or she will take the tests during the Advisory periods this month and receive score reports/reflection-direction sheets in October.

Congrats, Mr. Johnson!

Brian Johnson, teacher at Chagrin Falls Middle School, has been selected for the 2020 Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics Northeast District Middle School Teacher Award. The Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM) gives out awards each year to outstanding teachers, professors, emerging leaders, and friends of the subject of mathematics. Elementary, middle school, and secondary classroom teachers in the eight districts in Ohio are eligible to receive district awards. Outstanding classroom teachers were encouraged to apply and had to submit an application online.
The annual conference to recognize award winners will be held in October in a virtual format. Johnson will receive a plaque in the mail and will receive free registration for the virtual conference. He will also create a video of himself explaining his favorite math lesson, the best thing a student said to him, and how he has been inspired as a teacher. This video, among other award winners’ videos, will premiere during the virtual conference. In addition, during the conference OCTM will choose different award winners to feature on their Twitter page where the award winner’s school and/or district will be tagged. Matthew Carpenter, OCTM district director-at-large and Matthew Kennedy, northeast district director, emailed Johnson notifying him of the award and stated, “Thank you for your dedication to Ohio’s students and congratulations on this award!”
"Brian just gets it. He understands how kids learn. He works with them and uses best practices to build relationships, advocate and provide the right environment for risk-taking while encouraging confidence. He is a great model for his team and our school. He has the ability to work well with everyone while making others better educators. His impact is far and wide - from the math classroom to Sudan. I am so grateful for his positive presence at Chagrin Falls Middle School." - Laila Discenza, Principal, Chagrin Falls Middle School
