It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools. Chagrin Falls Schools are a true example of where expectations meet reality and the community works hand in hand with the school system to achieve success while never sacrificing tradition.
The Chagrin Falls community is an integral part of the Chagrin Falls School District. This strong partnership has led to continued excellence in the classroom and co-curricular activities. The involvement of our community members is a large part of the success and outstanding tradition. Parents and community members participate in our curriculum revisions, senior council and many volunteer opportunities that support the school.
This small town combination of schools and tradition is easily seen through our alumni organization. The school has an alumni director and has established a historical room, which is open to the public displaying numerous mementos including the origins of the school system.
The Chagrin Falls School District serves 1998 students in our three school locations – Gurney School (Grades K- 3), The Intermediate School (Grades 4 – 6), and the 7 – 12 Campus consisting of the Middle School, (Grades 7-8) and the High School (Grades 9 – 12). The 7-12 campus is connected sharing, among other things, outstanding music and art facilities and an advanced technology lab, yet maintaining a separation of the student bodies. This configuration allows 7 – 8 grade students to easily take advantage of high school classes, while still maintaining a clear identity.
The dedicated efforts of teachers, support staff, and administrators engage students in rigorous learning opportunities which manifest themselves in outstanding state and national assessments. The school system last year received the state’s top rating of Excellent for the 9th straight year, one of only a handful of schools in the state to do so. SAT and ACT test scores are consistently above national averages. 96% of last year’s graduating class went on to college. They were accepted at 149 colleges and universities in 35 states and are attending 67 schools in 22 states. Many of these students received college credit based on Advanced Placement scores. 232 students took 561 tests this past year with 79% earning a 3 or better.
The school district has earned honors at every level. Gurney School and the Intermediate School have been named Hall of Fame School Award winners by the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators. The Intermediate School and High School have been named as National Blue Ribbon Award winners by the Federal Department of Education. In addition, the Middle School has been recently nominated for this honor. Finally, Newsweek and U.S News have featured the high school as one of the “Best High Schools” in America.
The involvement of students in extra curricular activities is very important for their educational, physical, social and emotional growth. Numerous activities in our elementary, intermediate, middle and high schools are available for all students including academic, artistic, musical, and athletic opportunities.
What really sets our district apart from others is the unique aspect of the constant and positive involvement of our parents and community members. This involvement, coupled with a dynamic staff and a desire to honor what has come before, provides a recipe for success for all of the students in the Chagrin Falls School District.
Sincerely,
Stephen L. Thompson
