Chagrin Falls Intermediate School is PAX School! At CFIS, our motto is "We better our world; we better ourselves!" Everyday, we are committed to being respectful, responsible, and safe.
The Intermediate School houses approximately 375 students in grades four through six. Academic classes at each grade level are departmentalized and range from 80 to 120 minutes long. Our teachers provide students with rich and meaningful educational experiences and are skilled at differentiating instruction in order to meet the individual needs of every learner. Opportunities for academic growth are developed through tiered instruction, including advanced courses in language arts and math. Additional special classes are offered through our Encore Rotation, where students can take library, music, physical education, art, Spanish, and Project Lead the Way. Monthly guidance classes focus on drug and alcohol prevention, safety, mental health issues, bullying, and peer pressure.
Opportunities for intervention and enrichment are provided through our innovative and daily Personalized Learning Time, or PLT. Personalized Learning is at the root of our district mission and vision. It is defined as helping students to achieve their potential through a wide range of resources, strategies, and opportunities that match their learning styles, abilities, and interests. At the Intermediate School, we personalize learning through targeted intervention, leveled classes, gifted programming, interest-based extracurriculars, and student choice. Enrichment classes include STRETCH, Mathletics, and Invention Convention.
We have a wide variety of after school programs at the Intermediate School. These clubs have been wonderful avenues for team building, community awareness, and friendship. They have also helped students to form strong school spirit. Our children can participate in Select Choir, Student Council, P.A.W.S. (our student service organization), Rocket Club, Art Club, and Destination Imagination.
We were honored to be named a "Hall of Fame School" in 2005 by the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators. In recognition of our hard work and high student achievement, we were also named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2009. None of this would be possible without the commitment and dedication of our talented staff and the collaboration between our schools, families, and supportive community.
