Biography - Kathryn Garvey
Kathryn Garvey was elected to the Chagrin Falls School Board in November 2015. She is the Board representative to the Board Policy Committee and Cost Containment Committee and serves as the liaison to the Ohio School Board Association for Student Achievement and Legislative matters. Kathryn also serves as the Board’s representative to the Village of Chagrin Falls, Your HomeTown Chagrin Falls, Music Lovers, Senior Council and the Chagrin Valley Rec Center.
Kathryn is the founder and past president of Safe Routes Chagrin, a community-school organization that encourages and supports students’ healthy, active lifestyles.
She served on Superintendent’s Inner Council from 2011 to 2015, on the Community Outreach Committees for the 2007 and 2012 school levy campaigns, and as a member of the district’s Facilities Committee in 2015. Kathryn has volunteered for 12 years with PTO and is also very active in the community, volunteering with the Downtown Beautification Committee and serving as President of the Know Your Antiques Club.
Kathryn received an M.B.A. in Finance from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University and a B.A. degree from the University of Virginia. She previously worked as Director of Business Development and then as Director of Strategic Planning and Investor Relations at Athersys, Inc. and as a Business Manager and contract negotiator for the state of Ohio for Astra-Merck Pharmaceuticals.
Kathryn and her husband, Mike, have lived in the Village of Chagrin Falls for 23 years. They have three children: Megan, CFHS Class of 2016; Colin, CFHS Class of 2018; and Fiona, Class of 2021.
