CHAGRIN FALLS MIDDLE SCHOOL NAMED NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL


The Chagrin Falls Middle School was officially notified that they are one of eight middle schools in the State of Ohio honored as a 2010 National Blue Ribbon School. The Middle School was one of 254 public and 50 private schools from around the country who were honored at an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. The award honors schools who are either academically superior or have made dramatic gains in student achievement among minority and disadvantaged students.
 

INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL NAMED NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL

The Chagrin Falls Intermediate School was officially notified that they are one of eight elementary schools in the State of Ohio who honored as a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School. The Intermediate School was one of 264 public and 50 private schools from around the country who was honored at an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. The award honors schools who are either academically superior or have made dramatic gains in student achievement among minority and disadvantaged students.  Intermediate School Principal Chuck Murphy held a surprise staff meeting to notify his staff of the honor.


LIST OF DISTRICT AWARDS


• The Chagrin Falls School District has received the “Excellent with Distinction” rating for the 2012-2013 school year, making us one of only two out of 611 districts in the state of Ohio to achieve this honor all 13 years that the Ohio Department of Education has issued this award
 
• Chagrin Falls Middle School Principal Rebecca Holthaus was named as the National Association of Secondary School Principals National Principal of the Year for Ohio for the 2012 – 2013 school year
 
• Gurney Elementary Principal Dr. Rachel Jones was named as the 2014 Distinguished Principal of the Year by the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators
 
• Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools was named as a 2013 Top 100 Workplace by the Plain Dealer
 
• Gurney Elementary Principal Dr. Rachel Jones was selected to speak at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards convention held in the summer of 2013 in San Diego
 
• Middle School Librarian Lori Guerrini was named the 2013 Ohio Educational Library Media Association/ Follett Library Resources School Librarian of the Year
 
• Middle School teacher Cindy Dean was named as the recipient of the Rotary Club’s “Today’s Teacher for 2013” award
 
• Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools received the EPA’s Energy Star Award for excellence in energy utilization and efficiency
 
• Gurney Elementary received a grant from the Life Time Foundation as part of “Healthy Kids, Healthy Planet” program
 
• In 2013, Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools was ranked 8th in Forbes.com’s survey of the “Best Schools for Your Housing Buck,” which found that the best high-performing public school districts in the country are housed in the Midwest
 
• The Washington Post has ranked Chagrin Falls High School as the #1 high school in Northern Ohio, 5th best in the state of Ohio, and 17th best in the Midwest Region (composed of 9 area states) for the 2012 – 2013 school year
 
Newsweek magazine and The Daily Beast named Chagrin Falls High School as the 25th best in the Midwest Region and the 9th best high school in Ohio for the 2012 – 2013 school year
 
• Nine Chagrin Falls High School students have been notified that they have met requirements to enter the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program
 
• In the 2013-14 school year, Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools was nominated in three categories for the first-ever #BestEdTechAwards sponsored by the Ohio Educational Technology Conference (OETC); categories were Ed Leader Innovator Award, Technology Coordinator Innovator Award, and Program, winning the Innovator Award and Program awards
 
• Chagrin Falls High School’s Advanced Placement Computer Science teacher Carolyn Petite was named as a 2013 Plain Dealer Crystal Apple Winner
 
• Chagrin Falls School District’s Tracie Guggenheim was awarded the Ohio School Speech Language Pathologist and Educational Audiologist Coalition (OSSPEAC) “Honors of OSSPEAC” award for 2013 at their convention
 
• Chagrin Falls High School French and Arabic teacher Fadia Hamid was awarded a Qatar Foundation International Teacher Initiative Grant for the 2012 – 2013 school year to be used for her high school Arabic classes
 
• Gurney Elementary was named a Hall of Fame School for 2012
 
• Chagrin Falls High School was named a 2012 POLAR Showcase School by POLAR for their innovative use of Physical Education Technology, the only school so named in this region
 
• Gurney Elementary was named as a 2012 Model School of the Year by the Read to Them organization

• 114 students at Chagrin Falls High School earned the designation of Advanced Placement Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement exams in the 2011-2012 school year
 
• Chagrin Falls Middle School was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2010
 
• Chagrin Falls Intermediate School was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2009
 
• Gurney Elementary and Chagrin Falls High School have been named Schools of Distinction by the State Department of Education
 
Cleveland Magazine named Chagrin Falls High School the #1 high school in Northeastern Ohio in 2007 and 2008
